September was about fresh starts. October is about keeping them going. Our Sweeptober challenge is all about making space for the things that make you feel good, without adding another big task to your to-do list.
As the year picks up speed, it’s easy for the things that matter to slip down the list. Work gets busier, calendars fill up, school holidays arrive and suddenly there’s less time for yourself, your hobbies, your home and the little things you enjoy.
Instead of setting huge goals or trying to completely restart your routine, these Sweeptober challenges focus on one small thing you can keep doing throughout October. Choose the challenge that feels right for you and make it part of your month.
Here are six to try:
1. The Self-Care Challenge
Your challenge: Make time for yourself.
Self-care doesn’t have to mean a spa day or an entire afternoon to yourself. Sometimes it’s 10 quiet minutes before everyone wakes up, an early night or finally listening to the playlist you’ve had on repeat in your head.
Try doing one small thing for yourself every day.
Go for a walk. Put on a face mask. Read a few pages of a book. Sit outside with your morning coffee. Take a long shower. Whatever makes you feel a little more like yourself.
The goal isn’t to do something impressive. It’s to make looking after yourself part of your routine.
2. The Gratitude Challenge
Your challenge: Find one good thing every day.
When you’re rushing from one thing to the next, it’s easy to focus on everything that still needs doing. A gratitude habit gives you a reason to pause and notice what’s already going well.
At the end of each day, write down one thing you’re grateful for.
It could be a big win, a good conversation, your child’s funny comment, a beautiful sunset or simply getting through a particularly hectic Monday. No moment is too small.
By the end of October, you’ll have a whole list of good things to look back on. That’s the idea behind these Sweeptober challenges: small actions that help you notice and hold onto the good.
3. The Decluttering Challenge
Your challenge: Clear one small space a day.
You don’t need to spend an entire weekend decluttering your house. Start small.
Choose one drawer, cupboard, shelf or corner that you’ve been meaning to sort out and give it 10–15 minutes.
Ask yourself three questions:
Do I use it?
Do I need it?
Would I miss it if it disappeared?
Then keep, donate, recycle or throw away what no longer earns its place.
Small spaces add up. And if there’s a bigger clean you’ve been putting off, a SweepStar can always lend a hand.
4. The New Hobby Challenge
Your challenge: Try something new.
Most of us have a hobby we’ve been saying we’ll try “one day”.
October could be the month you finally start.
Paint. Bake. Garden. Crochet. Run. Read. Try pickleball. Learn photography. Start journalling. Pick up that musical instrument again.
It doesn’t have to become your new lifelong passion. The point is simply to make room for curiosity and try something you’ve been interested in.
You might discover something you love. And that’s exactly what these Sweeptober challenges are about: finding small ways to bring more of what you enjoy into your everyday life.
5. The Personal Growth Challenge
Your challenge: Learn something new.
You don’t need to enrol in a course or spend hours studying to learn something new.
Give yourself 15 minutes a day.
Listen to a podcast on something you’re curious about. Read a few pages of a book. Watch a tutorial. Learn a new recipe. Pick up a new skill. Follow that YouTube rabbit hole you’ve been saving for later.
Learning doesn’t have to feel like homework. Follow your curiosity and see where it takes you.
6. The Movement Challenge
Your challenge: Move a little more.
Forget the idea that exercise only counts if you’re at the gym for an hour.
Take the stairs. Walk around the block. Stretch while watching TV. Put on your favourite song and dance around the kitchen. Take a longer walk with the dog.
The goal is simply to find more opportunities to move throughout your day.
It doesn’t have to be serious to count. Just like the other Sweeptober challenges, it’s about choosing something small enough to keep going.
Keep the good going
The best habits are the ones you can actually keep doing.
So this October, don’t worry about becoming a completely new version of yourself. Choose one small thing that makes your days better and find a way to keep it going.
And when life gets busy and the chores start competing for your time, that’s where Sweepsouth comes in. You can leave the busy parts to us and make a little more room for the good stuff.
Choose your challenge. Make it yours. And keep the good going.
