Make a day, change a life: Celebrating Mandela Day

July 18th marks a very important day for South Africa – International Mandela Day. Celebrated globally each year, Mandela Day not only commemorates the birthday of Madiba but also serves as a reminder of his legacy and an opportunity for us as a nation to embrace the vision, mission, and values of our late president, Nelson Mandela.

The History of International Mandela Day

Officially launched by the United Nations in 2009, Mandela Day was established on Nelson Mandela’s 91st birthday to honour his 67 years of dedication to serving humanity. This initiative was inspired by Mandela’s words that encourage people to take action and create positive change in their communities with the 67 minutes of service symbolising Mandela’s 67 years of public service.

It is in your hands to make the world a better place. – Nelson Mandela

Mandela Day aims to inspire people, communities, and organisations worldwide to make a positive impact and contribute to meaningful social change. Today, Mandela Day continues to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute their time to meaningful causes, in honour of Mandela’s legacy of hope, reconciliation, and social justice.

At SweepSouth, we believe that everyone deserves access to opportunities, and our commitment to the community resonates deeply with Mandela’s vision of making the world a better place. Our vision is not only to create accessible and flexible home services for our customers but, more importantly, to create a meaningful impact on the lives of SweepStars – who are at the heart of everything we do.
